It is proposed to differentiate suicide from suicide attempts (or even communications). On a dynamic level, the former represents the net loss of all investment in/on the Self, while the latter represents an extreme and powerful investment in it. Suicide attempts are not the search for death, but the attempt to adapt the body’s potentialities to the potentialities of the  Self. The body, therefore, is summoned to a buffer function of uncontainable anxieties on an affective or symbolic level. Finally, the containment of suicide attempts may be possible  through modifications of the setting that, in the logic of the Enactment Process, are transferentially solicited by the patient. The analyst modulates and cares for a setting in which the patient can trace specific elements that tell of his presence and that the analyst introduces as a concrete signal of his capacity for intimate listening.KEY WORDS: Body-buffer, deformed self, enactment, setting, suicide attempts.

Proven effective and widely practiced during the COVID-19 pandemic, online psychotherapy is today a fundamental tool in the toolbox of the psychoanalyst and the psychotherapist: to be studied in depth in its possible indications and counter-indications and to be included in the training programs of our training schools. In response to the request of Editor-in-Chief of the Rivista di Psicoanalisi, Lombardozzi, the author provides a comprehensive account of his professional journey spanning over forty years. Throughout this trajectory, he grappled with the tension between social intense needs that manifest as psychic suffering and the helping dimension within the prism of the  potential use of psychoanalysis. The repeated scientific verification of high efficacy coefficients of psychoanalytically-oriented supporting methods favoured their development and  expansion over time. In Baldini’s journey, the pivotal role played by the Italian Psychoanalytic Society is emphasised, as the Society actively engaged with public institutions and private  social organisations, universities, the cultural realm, journalism, and local and central administrations. Throughout the author’s account, the theme of risk looms large, intricately linked  to the concept of prevention. Il confronto di Freud con la medicina francese a definizione del campo psicoanalitico e monito per l’attuale dialogo con le neuroscienze L’articolo pone l’attenzione sul confronto intrapreso con la medicina francese quale significativo indicatore, nella genealogia del sapere freudiano, della creazione della psicoanalisi come scienza dei processi psichici inconsci. Dall’accoglienza goduta a Parigi dal giovane neurofisiologo e anatomopatologo Freud, passando per l’operato distacco critico da Charcot e dalla Scuola neurologica francese, è attraverso un significativo contributo offerto alla risoluzione del «caos concettuale» vigente nella comprensione della patologia mentale, che la disciplina psicoanalitica acquisisce fondamento e denominazione. Riguardo a tale fondazione l’articolo valorizza la connessa costruita e necessaria legittima autonomia epistemica del campo dell’Inconscio. Tutto ciò quale definizione della originaria specificità della disciplina psicoanalitica, della incommensurabilità dei suoi oggetti, metodi di indagine e prassi clinico-terapeutica nei riguardi degli analoghi accessibili a cognitivismo e neuroscienze. «La ΨA – scrive Freud – farà da sé». Freud’s confrontation with French medicine for the definition of the psychoanalytic field and as warning for the current dialogue with neurosciences. The article focuses on the confrontation undertaken with French medicine as a significant indicator, in the genealogy of Freudian knowledge, of the creation of psychoanalysis as science of unconscious psychic processes. From the reception enjoyed in Paris by the young neurophysiologist and anatomopathologist Freud, going through the critical detachment from Charcot and the French neurological School, it is through a significant contribution offered to the resolution of the «conceptual chaos» in force in the understanding of mental pathology, that the psychoanalytic discipline acquires foundation and denomination. With regard to this foundation, the article enhances the connected constructed and necessary legitimate epistemic autonomy of the field of the Unconscious. All this as a definition of the primary specificity of the psychoanalytic discipline, of the incommensurability of its objects, methods of investigation and clinical-therapeutic praxis in the regards of analogues accessible to cognitivism and neurosciences. «ΨA – writes Freud – goes by itself». L’article s’intéresse à la confrontation entreprise avec la médecine française comme indicateur significatif, dans la généalogie du savoir freudien, de la création de la psychanalyse comme science des processus psychiques inconscients. De l’accueil réservé à Paris au jeune neurophysiologiste e pathologiste Freud, en passant par le détachement critique opéré de Charcot et son école neurologique française, c’est à travers une contribution significative offerte à la résolution du « chaos conceptuel », en vigueur dans la compréhension de la pathologie mentale, que la discipline psychanalytique acquiert fondation et dénomination. Au regard de ce fondement, l’article valorise l’autonomie épistémique légitime et construite du champ de l’Inconscient. Desde la acogida que tuvo en París el joven neurofisiólogo y anatomopatólogo Freudy luego pasando por el alejamiento crítico de Charcot y de la escuela neurológica francesa, y gracias también a una significativa contribución ofrecida a la resolución del «caos conceptual» vigente en la comprensión de patología mental, la disciplina psicoanalítica adquiere fundamento y denominación. Con respecto a este fundamento, el artículo realza la elaborada y necesaria legítima autonomía epistémica del campo del Inconsciente. Freuds Auseinandersetzung mit der französischen Medizin zur Definition des psychoanalytischen Feldes und Mahnung für den aktuellen Dialog mit den Neurowissenschaften. Der Artikel richtet die Aufmerksamkeit auf die Auseinandersetzung mit der französischen Medizin, die in der Genealogie des Freud’schen Wissens wichtiger Wegweiserfür die Schaffung der Psychoanalyse als Wissenschaft unbewusster psychischer Prozesse ist. Von der in Paris erfahrenen Aufnahme des jungen Neurophysiologen und anatomischem Pathologen Freud, über die kritische Distanzierung von Charcot und der französischen neurologischen Schule, gewinnt die psychoanalytische Disziplin Grundlage und Bezeichnung durch einen bedeutenden Beitrag zur Auflösung des «konzeptuellen Chaos», das im Verständnis der geistigen Pathologie besteht. Im Hinblick auf diese Grundlage hebt der Artikel die damit verbundene konstruierte und notwendige epistemische Autonomie des Bereichs des Unbewussten hervor. All dies zur Definition der ursprünglichen Besonderheit der psychoanalytischen Disziplin, der Inkommensurabilität ihrer Objekte, Untersuchungs methoden und klinisch-therapeutischen Praxis gegenüber den dem Kognitivismus und den Neurowissenschaften zugänglichen Analogien. «Die ΨA, schreibt Freud, «wird ihr eigenes Ding machen».
